YAMAHA REPLACEMENT AIR CLEANER INSTALLATION

This photo shows a standard Triumph air filter on the left and a 'squeezed' one on the right. The filter should be squeezed into an oval shape with the narrow dimension of 4 inches.

Two shims need to be cut of hardboard. The first shim of 1/4 inch hardboard should be 8 by 6 1/2 inches. The second shim of 1/8 hardboard should be 8 by 5 inches.

Since the shims extend above the air intake in the back of the airbox, I used the 'squeezed' filters as a pattern to remove excess material at the top of the 1/4 inch shim for maximum air flow.

Place the two oval-shaped air filters in the airbox. Make sure the filters are placed so they rest on the metal ledge toward the bottom of the airbox.

Place the 1/4 inch shim in the airbox so that the bottom of the shim rests on the bottom of the airbox.

Lastly, insert the 1/8 shim between the 1/4 inch shim and the back of the airbox. It will be a rather snug fit, but you want it that way so that it seals the rubber around the filters to prevent unfiltered air from getting to your carbs. Note--my parts airbox (shown) needed the 1/8 shim to make a snug fit. My running bike's airbox was very snug without the shim. Use whatever arrangement works for you.
