      A rattling noise from the L.H. side of the crankcase usually indicates a problem with the Starter Clutch.

      This may be accompanied by a non-functioning starter. In other words when the starter button is depressed the starter motor spins over and does not turn the engine over.

STARTER CLUTCH ASSY.

      There are several small changes which can be made to the starter clutch assembly to improve its operation.

      When installing the new starter clutch be sure to use the new bolts. These are 3mm longer than the old bolts and will ensure that they do not loosen off.

      A good idea is to loctite the threads and also stake the ends to prevent loosening.

      Replace the starter clutch sprocket if the engagement surface is pitted or has an irregular surface.
