tx750 special interest site ROTOR OIL SEAL

The rotor oil seal has been redesigned to prevent oil leaking from the main gallery through to the ignition points area.

There are three parts which make up the rotor oil seal assembly.

    341-13455-00 Plug

This rubber plug fits in behind the rotor oil seal. Its main purpose is to cut down on noise. In other words it reduces the echo effect in the oil gallery.

The plug can be seen in the drawing Ref #17.

There are two other places in the points area from which oil can leak and give the impression that oil is coming through the rotor oil seal.

    1. Blind Plug Oil Gallery.

At approximately the 11 o'clock position in the points assembly there is a small oil gallery which runs across the engine. During production the gallery is plugged off with a ball bearing that has an aluminum plug on top of it. This assembly is then sealed with Devcon plastic steel.

On some machines oil will leak around the plastic steel and into the point cavity.

If this is the case with any TX750's that have oil in the point cavity, the following procedure should be adopted.

    1. Remove old epoxy.
    2. Drill into gallery sufficiently to provide a good surface for the new epoxy.
    3. Clean thoroughly around the gallery and apply new Devcon plastic steel.

All new crankcases are welded at the factory and need not be treated in this manor.

    2. Alternator Wires Plug.

Where the generator wires come out of the L.H. crankcase side cover they pass through a rubber block. This block should be sealed with silicone sealant to prevent oil from leaking around it.
