tx750 special interest site OIL TEMPERATURE

Oil temperature and capacity is a very important aspect of good TX750 operation.

We have found generally that the average multigrade oil is not capable of sustaining good lubrication qualities at high temperatures.

Generally thinner oils deteriorate quicker than thicker oils although this can be compensated for by the addition of anti-oxident additives.

The following are suggested maximum oil temperatures.

SAE 10W/30 Multigrade -220°F absolute Max. 250%degF
HD40 Single Grade -240°/250°F absolute Max. 280°F

Regarding the TX750. It is possible for a customer to get the oil temperature as high as 320°F under extreme summer conditions.

ie., Consistent high speed driving in 90° weather.

There are three possible remedies to this situation.

  1. Recommend to all your TX750 customers that they use a single grade oil viscosity depending on conditions.
eg. Winter 20 or 30 wt.
        Summer 40 or 50 wt.
  2. Install the large sump plate shown in the modified parts list enclosed in this book.
  3. Install an oil cooler.

OIL OPERATING TEMPERATURE

  OIL TEMP
Std. Oil Tank 320°F
Large Sump Plate 284°F
+ Oil Cooler 230°F

As can be seen from the chart the oil temperature can be considerably reduced using the sump plate and/or the oil cooler.

If you have customers whom you know drive long distances in hot weather recommend that they buy either the large sump plare or the oil cooler or both.
