39) Turn crankcase to 90° B.T.D.C. Reposition dial gauge and measure freeplay of weight No. 2. Chain tension will vary slightly because sprocket holes cannot be perfectly centered.
40) Turn crankshaft to bottom dead center. Reposition dial gauge and check freeplay.
41) Choose crankshaft location where balancer chain is tightest, loosen large nut and adjust chain tension to 0.3 ~ 0.4mm by turning shaft with screwdriver (clockwise = loose, counter-clockwise = tight).
42) Tighten locknut with special 35mm wrench. Recheck chain tension. Readjust if necessary.
43) Install engine sump cover, alternator cover (new gaskets) and L.H. outer crankcase cover. Replace engine oil.
44) Start engine and check noise level. If O.K., go on to step 45. If not O.K., with engine running, loosen adjust shaft locknut and loosen chain slightly (just enough to eliminate noise). Choose setting with minimum noise. CAUTION: Do not tighten chain to less than .3mm freeplay; engine vibration and noise will result.
45) Place large flat washer (Kit Ref. No. 10) on top of balancer shaft with open slot around crankcase web. Install bolt (Kit Ref. No. 11) and lockwasher (Kit Ref. No. 12) and tighten. Bend flat of washer up against two flats of the nut.
