TX750                         MISCELLANEOUS SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS (cont.)

ELECTRIC STARTER. If starter clutch slips, proceed as follows:
 
1. Clutch slips; engine cold, weather cold.
 
  a. Drain crankcase and oil tank. Install SAE 10W-30 type "SE" motor oil, 3,000cc (3.2 qts.).
 
NOTE: As temperatures increase or owner usage becomes more severe (constant high speed driving, etc.) remove 10W-30 oil and re-install SAE 20W-40 type "SE".
 
2. Clutch slips; engine cold or hot.
 
  a. Remove left crankcase cover and generator cover.
  b. Remove starter clutch outer assembly.
  c. Check assembly for proper roller action.
  d. Check securing bolts (Ref. 7-8) for tightness. If loose, remove, clean threads, re-install using "Loc-Tite". Torque to 2.5 Kg/m (220 in/lb).
  e. Check shoulder on starter sprocket (2). Replace if severly galled or worn.
 
HEAD GASKET. When re-torquing to cure leakage problem, torque hex head bolts (Ref. 3-16) to 2.0~2.3 Kg/m (180~200 in/lb). See also, Page 1, SNB #302.
 
FUEL TANK. Some units have debris in tank. Check fuel filter(s) first 100, 250, 500 miles. Clean filter(s), flush tank as required.
 
BATTERY VENT TUBE. Routing should be through clip on bottom of battery box, then exit at center or right side between rear of engine and swing arm to prevent acid damage to drive chain.
 
IGNITION POINTS.
 
1. In cases of severe point erosion, check condenser capacity. If capacity checks okay, machine may have bad or recently repaired pump shaft seal. Replace points. Replace seal as required.
