IGNITION POINTS (Cont.)

2. Ignition point gap must be 0.3~0.4mm (0.012~0.016").

  a. Rotate cam. With points at widest opening, set gap.

NOTE: Too narrow point gap will cause arcing. Excessive point gap can cause misfire, poor performance

IGNITION TIMING. Factory altered advance mechanism after rotor manufactured. Ignition points should open at approximately 4~8° BTDC at retard. In fully advanced position, points should open 37° ± 2° not 35° ± 2° as stated in Specification Sheet.

NOTE: Ignition timing tolerance is therefore 35°~39° when governor fully advanced. Additionally, timing balance between cylinders must be ± 2°. Use strobe light to check (No E/N at this time on advance mechanism change. Will issue PNB later.)

OIL LEAK INTO IGNITION POINT AREA.

See SNB #305. If leakage persists, check wiring loom grommet between generator cover and case. See Drawing, right.
Remove cover. Seal grommet lips with RTV (silicon) sealant. Re-install making sure grommet is correctly seated.
